Added to Endurance Thursday was another inelegant attempt at "changing on the fly." Changing into what is the real question. Perhaps a reverse metamorphosis, from graceful butterfly to awkward caterpillar? Grace was definitely not our strong suit this evening. Sheila and Brianna had to go to extreme lengths to keep from dissolving into fits of giggles from their vantage points at bow and stern as they watched the contortions, conniptions and confusion that resulted from the movement of buttock cheeks from one side of a seat to the other while the boat surged rhythmically back and forth (and occasionally side-to-side). Now don't get me wrong: we like it when the boat surges. This means that we're doing good. There was a time when we couldn't have created a surge for love nor money. It's just that now we have to refine a technique for doing the dragon boat equivalent of crawling over, under and around a bucking bronco's midsection while it corkscrews across the corral.
Another added challenge this evening was not only playing hide-and-seek with the rowing teams, but also trying to determine exactly which way another dragon boat was going to go as it staggered along its zig-zag trajectory up and down the Gorge like a drunken sailor. We thank our lucky stars for our own talented Lady-of-the-Steering-Oar who keeps up safely on the straight and narrow!
