The Dog Paddlers paddled their way to a second place finish in the Red B Final at the Vancouver Island Dragon Boat Championships on August 11th. We got a little too ambitious with our time in the first race, and ended up a division higher than we probably really wanted to be. In our semi-final, we had a bit of a flat race—a race with no real 'ooomph', shall we say. We finished 4th and dropped into the B Final. Just like at Nanaimo, we picked up more than six seconds between our semi-final race and our final race, but this time finished second by 60-100ths of a second. Arghhh. Overall, we finished 13th in terms of time, out of 49 teams in the Mixed division.
Nonetheless, a great warm-up for the Victoria Dragon Boat Festival next weekend. Monday night practice was another installment in the 'paddlers just wanna have fun' vein, with some more 'rescuing' of the Spiderman ball. Lots of laughter, and some good practice for the Paddle for Kids event in September. Some serious paddling too, to end it all off. Just one more practice left until the BIG one!
