SNOW DAY

It's a winter wonderland on southern Vancouver Island! The Victoria area is getting in the Christmas mood by frosting itself with about 8 inches of the fluffy stuff...and industriously and decoratively blowing it around in all directions now that it has stopped actually falling from the sky. A good day to hole up in the house and do some chores or a little Christmas baking or (of course) take pictures of the dogs out in the snow.

This is Sami's first experience with snow. He's not very impressed. It's quite chilly out, and given that he has absolutely no body fat, I can understand his reluctance to venture out, even with his coat on. I added his 'muscle shirt' under his red fleece, and that seemed to help...he at least stayed out long enough to pee. But he went out under protest (i.e. I had to hunt him down in the house and carry him out and put him some distance from the back door so that he actually had to spend some time out in the snow). He still wasn't much impressed with this change in the weather, and made a bee-line for the door as fast as he could find his way back there.

Zack, on the other hand, just loves being out in the snow. However, he also comes in chock-a-block full of snowballs in his fur, so I only let him out occasionally since I'm not all that fond of all the little puddles of melting snow he then deposits around the house once he's back in and melting. Abby enjoys the snow too, but it was a bit deep for her to go bounding around through it the way Zack does.

Zack enjoying the first snowfall of winter.

Abby checks out the trail system before venturing farther afield in the backyard.

Zack and Abby return from their reconnaissance mission to Martha and Joe's back gate.

Sami takes a reluctant trip around the backyard pathways.

Sami, having had enough of the winter wonderland, makes a hasty retreat to the back door.

Egads! Snow on The Island!!! I may not retire there after all...

They must make canine snowshoes, yes?

We're headed into the Big Chill from Alberta this weekend, plus a major snowstorm from southwestern Ontario. I think we'll have a white Christmas, and the best part is that we currently have 100 cm LESS snow than we did this time last year!

Have fun romping in the snow, you 3dogateers!

love,
your cousin who is still thawing out from her last round of yard duty in 2008!
