LITTLE DOGS, BIG TRAIL

Abby and Sami running to catch up.

We're back in the rhythm of the trail walks. It seemed like the cold and snow of December and early in the new year has kept us from the trails for far too long. But we're happily trail walking again on a regular basis.

Two of the last three weeks, our Saturday walk has been along the Beaver Lake trail, paralleling the western shore of Beaver and Elk Lakes. It's a very popular trail. We meet lots of joggers, people training for racing events, groups on horseback, people just out for a walk.... It's a very busy trail! There was even a rowing regatta going on at Elk Lake that we could glimpse through the trees. Then there was the unexpected: for the second time in a row, there were cormorants perched lakeside with their wings outstretched to dry.

This was Sami's fourth outing on our trail walks (his second to Beaver Lake), and he did just fine. He likes to be "leader of the pack" and spent a lot of time up at the front of the group with the big dogs. Quite funny to see him trotting along underfoot of all the big guys! He also has a bad habit of walking right behind people's feet...which I think he's finally realizing is a bad idea after getting clipped by their heels a few times. Below, he's moved alongside rather than behind Brian...a much safer position!

Sami walks alongside Brian.
