ELK LAKE IMMERSION

Gemma learned to swim today. Not sure that she was entirely thrilled with the concept, but the water was reasonably warm at Elk Lake, and we took her and Cato the Rottie there to learn to swim. Mylo, Hana, Betty and Switch were along for the ride, and being expert swimmers already, they had a fine time playing fetch in the lake while Gemma and Cato worked on their swimming badges.

Gemma walked into the water without any trouble, and swam when she ran out of lake bottom, but she'd turn around and head to shore pretty quickly. She probably needs something like a frisbee to chase down to make her head out from shore. I took her in several times and released her to swim to shore, but I think it will be a while before she decides that this is actually a fun thing to do. She probably figures it was all worth it, however...since Randy gave her a butt-tickle afterwards!

Gemma! Hurrah! Congratulations! Now you'll be dreaming you're a fish, or an otter, or a dolphin...

I still remember getting my first Red Cross Swimming Badge. It was red and white, with 'BEGINNER' written on it. I was so very proud!

If I still had it (I think the racoons in our garage this spring ate it) I would certainly send it along to you (bonus: you wouldn't have to sew it on to your bathing suit-- tee-hee!)

love 'n hugs!
