BUSY WEEKEND

Another busy weekend for the Island Dog Sports folks. On Saturday, we ran the dogs in a fun agility trial. Once again, it was the good folks at ScallyWaggs who were hosting the fun. It was indoors, at Shannick Farm — a good choice as the weather was a bit iffy on Saturday. And a good choice for our dogs, because Shannick Farm is our winter home for agility practice, so the dogs are very familiar with the sights and sounds there.

Both Abby and Zack ran well. I was able to keep Abby on course by the occasional use of a squeaky toy to get her focus back on me and the course. She made few errors, but she needs to run a little faster, as she would run clean but over the time limit. Nonetheless, she racked up at least one mythical "Fun Q" (i.e. it doesn't count towards a title because this is just a fun event). Zack also got at least one Fun Q. We didn't see the results of the final course, so who knows, they may both have Q's there too. At any rate, they ran that last course in fine fashion, whatever the result.

Above is a frame exported from the video we took of our runs. Zack is just completing the final jump in one of the "jumpers" runs.

Abby had another small victory...no peeing on these courses either. That honour instead went to Betty, being run by George. Betty gave him the one-two punch — by having a pee at the starting gate and then three-quarters of the way through the run she wandered off at the far end of the course to do something a bit more substantial. Poor George!
On Sunday, we did two agility demos at the Strawberry Festival at Beaver Lake. We didn't have massive crowds, but those on hand to watch were appreciative. Not too hot a day, weather-wise. Sun and cloud, a pleasant breeze and moderate temperatures, which was just what we would want for the dogs. We popped up the new screen tent I bought at Walmart last week. It worked just great, it's nice and roomy, and it kept us in the shade and cool. Someone else in the group will likely pick up another one of the screen tents so that we can have additional room to spread out at future demos and agility trials.
